Faulty renovation work: preparing your claim
Record the difference between the agreed work and what was delivered before negotiating.
Agreement and outstanding work
Collect the accepted quotation, contract, invoices and agreed changes. List defects, delays and additional work separately by item. They may involve different breaches.
Document before repairing
Keep dated original photos. An expert may assess cause and repair costs; another contractor’s estimate does not always prove faulty earlier work. Address urgent risks and retain invoices.
If the contractor abandons the job
Keep contact attempts and payment records. Before appointing someone else to finish, obtain advice on formally demanding completion and recording the existing state.
Possible remedies
Depending on the contract and seriousness, correction, repayment, termination and proven losses may be considered. Not every loss is recoverable; review payment obligations before withholding money.
Negotiation and court
The lawyer checks deadlines and the legal route, prepares the demand and assesses required pre-action negotiation. An informal complaint does not always meet that requirement. A claim must identify the breach and requested remedy.
General information. The lawyer reviews your case, documents and deadlines before proposing action.
