What to check before accepting an insurance offer
An offer may settle more issues than it first appears. Check the losses covered and whether future claims are restricted.
1. Keep the complete offer
Keep the proposal, communications and settlement or release document. Review the calculation and included items, not only the amount.
2. Separate damage and expenses
Injuries and property damage require different records. Do not assume every expense is recoverable.
- Accident and police reports, photos and witnesses.
- Medical reports and follow-up.
- Invoices, repairs, expenses and income loss.
3. Check the policy
Legal expenses cover may allow independent lawyer choice, with limits. Review the policy before relying on reimbursement.
If you disagree
Do not sign a waiver you do not understand. The lawyer reviews the offer, cover and prior steps and explains the options.
General information. The lawyer reviews your case, documents and deadlines before proposing action.
